I know I'm not the first person to fall in love with Rome but well how can you not? This city has countless of opportunities to offer you! Just by walking randomly in the beautiful streets you will encounter so many new places just waiting to be discovered by you.

My general tips for a trip to Rome:

1. A week in Rome will be enough to experience the city.

2. In this blog I will only write about Rome but since the public transportation and the metro are extremely comfortable I recommend adding to the trip to Rome a day or two outside of Rome to another city (Florence\ Pisa for example) which are so easy to get to.

3. The food might be a bit pricey but it is absolutely the best! Try and enjoy from the pizza\ pasta\ ice cream and more local food and to avoid the high price try finding restaurants in less touristic and "hot" spots. 4. This city is not that big and although using the metro might be very comfortable, if the weather is nice I recommend using a map or a navigation app and just explore this city by foot! This way you will discover so many beautiful hidden gems and wonderful locations.

5. Almost every touristic location is worth visiting few times in different hours of the day. I recommend paying a visit to Fontana Di Trevi and the Colosseum both in the morning and in the evening, you will be amazed of how much the experience and the surrounding changes.

What to do?

  • Fontana Di Trevi: a fountain in the Trevi district. I bought some fresh fruits in a cup and spent the afternoon just sitting in the nice weather enjoying my fruits and this amazing fountain. Tip: I recommend coming to the Trevi Fountain in the afternoon hours to avoid the sun heat and also to enjoy it both by day light and night time.

  • The Colosseum: This amphitheater is in the center of the city and probably the most recognized symbol of Rome. To get here you can easily take metro line B to the metro station Colosseo. It is possible to find a reliable agency and by paying 50 euro you may get a pass-the-line ticket which will save you a few good hours in the long line.

  • Roman triumphal arche.

  • Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel: The Vatican Museum is within the Vatican City and is a must visit place even if you are not the biggest museum and art lover. Walking between so many exquisite arts from so many kinds is a one of kind experience. In the Vatican museum you absolutely have to visit the Sistine Chapel, a chapel that each and every surface of it is covered with exquisite art which is the home of the "Creation of Adam" painting by Michelangelo on its the ceiling.

  • St. Peter's Basilica: Located within Vatican City on Vatican Hill and is considered as the holiest place and as the heart of the Catholic Church. Even if you are not a religious person this huge marvelous basilica and all the area surrounding it will be a beautiful interesting place to pay a visit.

  • Castel Sant'Angelo: An impressive old fortress located on the right bank of the Tiber River, a short distance from the Vatican City. This castle will offer you not only an interesting museum but also an amazing viewpoint of the city and river. Tip: I recommend visiting this castle on the same day as the Vatican museum because of the short distance and the lovely walk between them.

  • The Pantheon: This impressive roman temple will impress you with its powerful architecture, you will enter between 8 giant roman columns that will lead you into a circular room and above your head you will see a big powerful dome. This temple is one of the best-preserved of all Ancient Roman buildings and you must pay it a visit.

  • Piazza Venezia: It's true that Rome is full of amazing piazzas and I will mention a few but for me the most breathtaking one will be Piazza Venezia. In the heart of Rome, full of details and interesting facts you will find this big white square, climb its white stone stairs and enjoy the beautiful view and art.

  • Spanish stairs and the piazzas around it: These famous stairs connect between Piazza di Spagna at the bottom and Piazza Trinità dei Monti at the top which is dominated by the Trinità dei Monti church. These beautiful stairs will offer you an impressive view of both piazzas and you may also visit one of the many designer stores that surround it. (Unfortunately I do not have a better picture since the stairs were under constructions).

  • Piazza del popolo: From piazza di spanga you can go on a nice walk through Via del Babuino street between many shops and stores to piazza del popolo which has two impressive churches that you can visit and admire.

  • Piazza Navona: With its three majestic fountains and surrounding mansions this Piazza is one of the most beautiful squares in Rome. The piazza's location in the center of the touristic area will make sure that you will not miss it and it is also very close to the pantheon and many interesting shops and churches.

  • Villa Borghese gardens: There is not a lot needed to say about this magnificent garden. Spending the afternoon on a bench in front of the beautiful lake, taking a bike ride or a walk in these peaceful gardens full of roman structures and statues or even having a small picnic in the nature will all be great option to soak in this lovely place.

  • Palatine Hill: This amazing place often overlooked by many tourists that only pay attention to its famous neighbor the Colosseum but you really don't want to miss it. In the Palatine Hill you can see countless of ruins of the buildings that were created for high Roman society in ancient times and spend the day in a very pleasant walk under the shadow of the trees while passing many of the preserved corners of ancient Rome.

To be honest while writing this blog I tried (not so successfully) to use the phrase "must visit" as less as I can, but as you can see, I just kept on using it! The reason is that Rome is just a "must visit" place as it is, it just blew my mind away and kept surprising me throughout the whole visit.
